gq: Everything You Want To Know About Season 3 of Eastbound & Down GQ’s Daniel Riley talks to Danny McBride about returning to North Carolina, casting the show, and routinely getting mistaken for Kenny “Fucking” Powers (an “arrogant asshole full of confidence.”) GQ: Your crew is pretty tight. You and Jody, David Gordon Green, Ben Best. Even down to your friends working on the tech stuff in these projects. You’ve all been collaborating on stuff since college. Are you guys welcoming to outsiders?Danny McBride: We’re definitely welcoming. At the end of the day, we really just do this ‘cause we like to have a good time with it. We don’t like it to be stressful, we don’t like to work with people who are a pain in the ass—and so any time we work on projects and do find people who are in the same mindset as us, we always try to find ways to work with them again. Guys like [James] Franco or Seth [Rogen], or Will [Ferrell] and Adam [McKay], and guys like Aziz [Ansari]—these are all people that we’ve had the chance to work with, and they’re of the same mindset. We came from a background where the day after I graduated film school, David started rolling cameras on George Washington, you know? And so that movie was made by everybody sticking around and keeping their places that they had been living in for college just an extra month and kind of ponying up and helping out a buddy to make a film—and that kind of shot David’s career off. And for Foot Fist Way, everyone had jobs but we all quit them and just went down to make this movie. So there’s just this camaraderie there, this all-for-one, one-for-all kind of vibe. We like it—it’s a fun way to work, and I think we try to keep that going now that we’re actually getting paid for it. Can’t wait.
